Molly lived in a neighborhood in Tingkat Damai 2, Taman Alma, Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia. She was the neighborhood’s resident watchdog and everybody considered her as a part of their family. She was deeply embedded in their lives and they had gotten so accustomed to her that when she passed on, it was a different kind of sadness.
The whole neighborhood mourned for her untimely death and at the same time, it made the residents reminisce about their time with her.
She was the dog that didn’t belong to anyone but was a part of everyone. Her origin was a bit clouded with some speculations although, it was believed that she was the dog of someone in the neighborhood who already passed away. But she decided to stay in the area and then return to her home at night.
Molly slept many nights at what was once her home and just looked around the neighborhood for food. Then, she started moving to other houses to take shelter for a while and people just accepted her being there. Eventually, she took turns sleeping in different houses and patiently and gently waiting for food.
That neighborhood had Molly deeply attached to them. Kids loved to call to her to play but Molly was past being playful and instead, she just watched over them. They always knew she was around even if she wasn’t physically present at all times. They would just hear the bell on her collar and call out her name.
Everyone had their own stories and special memories of Molly and she was truly special for them. And even if no one owned her, everyone felt like they lost a family member. Now that she’s gone, it’s not going to be the same neighborhood but everyone will always remember her bell.
