In Houston, Texas, a couple named Sydney and Matt Hunt woke up at around 2 in the morning when they realized there was motion in their front yard. While they panicked a little bit at first, they decided to check the video recording of their security camera. To their surprise, they saw a black Labrador sneaking around.
The couple didn’t think it was much of a big deal so they decided to simply let the dog be and then went back to sleep. But what they thought was a one-time incident turned out to be a nightly routine. The following night, and the nights after that, the dog kept coming back into their property.
It seemed that the dog was scavenging for something to eat or drink so the couple decided to place food and water outside their door. They thought he was simply a lost dog and that someone was probably sick worried about him and it was imperative that they try and keep him nourished.
One night, however, Sydney and Matt tried to say hello, but the dog felt terrified and ran away. When they followed him, they saw him run into the thick bush behind their house. It gave him a little shelter but they knew it wouldn’t protect him from the tropical storm that was coming their way.
The couple was certain that the dog would come back so they set up a crate and placed used blankets and linens inside it. That way, he’d get used to their scent and won’t feel threatened. From that night, Matt sat outside and spent a good hour or two gaining the dog’s trust. Eventually, Matt succeeded, and the rest was history.
Sydney and Matt welcomed the dog they named Bishop into their home. They had him checked at the vet’s office and made sure he was up to date on all his vaccines. They treated him like a part of their family, but they just couldn’t keep him no matter how much they wanted to.
After sharing the dog’s story on Facebook, the couple got a call from one of their neighbors, Courtney. She told them she wasn’t really searching for a dog but when she saw Bishop online, she knew right away she wanted him.
Bishop soon joined his new family. He felt quite comfortable with them right away and didn’t need a minute to adapt. He knew he was home.
