Smokey is a pitbull puppy that had a rough beginning in life. Even though she had a house, she was abused and neglected by her humans. They were so ruthless and brutal that the puppy would not have survived long enough under their care. It was a good thing that a nice retired police officer discovered her and gave her the life she deserves.
This retired police officer is Brad Chambers and, one day, he was delayed in bumper-to-bumper traffic. That was when he spotted a puppy that ran under his truck. Concerned that the small dog might be injured, he exited the vehicle and inspected underneath it. He was astonished to discover that the puppy was dripping with blood.
Smokey the dog had fled those who were abusing her and hid beneath Brad’s truck. She was terrified and trembling, but she happily let the compassionate man rescue her.
Brad observed that the dog had many knife wounds and it appeared like she would not survive. Smokey was fortunate that the ex-cop was trained to deal with this type of injury and also carried a trauma kit in his vehicle. Brad administered first aid to the injured dog before transporting her to the local animal hospital.
As soon as the veterinarians saw her wounds, they realized that she needed additional medical care. Due to the severity and quantity of her injuries, she was sent to the next state for surgery.
The injured dog was transported to the emergency room, where vets immediately began treating her and stabilizing her condition. It took several weeks for Smokey to heal completely.
The treatment of the dog did not come cheap. All in all, the amount came to $15,000. Brad paid a portion of it out of his own money and raised the remaining funds.
At that point, he had developed an emotional attachment to the dog, and so he chose to adopt her.
Throughout the dog’s most challenging experience, the two had developed a deep attachment to each other. Smokey trusted Brad, and it seemed only natural that the man who saved her would become her fur dad.
