Some people consider senior dogs to be less adoptable pets than their younger counterparts. The same goes for other dogs with special needs. In reality, these dogs are full of love to share if only they can find the right homes. Fortunately, automotive company Subaru stepped up and started a campaign that encourages the adoption of hard-to-adopt-dogs. Subaru is now in the second year of its “Make a Dog’s Day” event, aiming to find homes for thousands of hard-to adopt dogs.
Subaru’s love for dogs is traceable back to 2008 with its “Share the Love” program. In the said program, Subaru donated a portion of the purchases to customers’ charity of choice. The car company noticed that most of the chosen charities are animal welfare organizations. The program showed them that most of their customers are passionate about animal well-being.
Since then, Subaru started launching programs that well promote animal welfare. They even featured dogs in their commercials and named October as the “Subaru Love Pets” month. Since 2015, their programs already helped more than 230,000 dogs to find their new homes.
Until now, Subaru continues its advocacy of changing the lives of several dogs. And for this year’s “Make a Dog’s Day, they focused more on special needs dogs and senior dogs. They broadcasted ads and digital media to show “The Underdogs” and how deserving they are of love and attention. The ads did not mention Subaru’s cars; they only talked about the brave canines who deserves a new home.
In this year’s campaign, 526 of Subaru’s U.S. dealerships participated in the adoption program. They partnered with about 600 local rescues and shelters. Subaru will also donate $100 to animal welfare groups for every successful adoption made this month. With this campaign, Subaru aims to change the lives of at least 16,300 canines.
