Dogs love water, and they won’t let anything get in the way of them taking a plunge into a pool full of water. They enjoy splashing and swimming in the water. And if they ever find one of their toys in the pool, they never hesitate to jump in after it.
Well, not Abby. Abby is a black Labrador who was rescued by a shelter. Her new family adopted her in hopes that she will be able to enjoy a much happier life compared to her past.
When she was adopted by her first family, all she was given was a tennis ball, and so, she has become attached to it that she will go after it wherever it is. But when her owner tosses the ball in the pool, you might be surprised at how Abby retrieves her favorite ball.
Unlike most dogs who will just jump into the water, Abby uses a slightly different approach. She uses tools! Much like a human, she uses her problem-solving skills to get her favorite ball without having to get wet.
Her owner leaves a boogie board floating near the edge of the pool. Once Abby’s owner tosses the ball into the water, Abby slowly gets on the board, doing her best to balance herself. Amazingly, Abby is able to lead the board towards the ball and retrieve it.
What’s even more amazing is how she gets off the board. Watching the video, you might think that she will fall off as she tries to jump out of the pool. But, no — with one smooth leap, Abby manages to jump out without even losing her balance!
In the video, her owner throws the ball into the pool a second time, and again, Abby manages to retrieve it using the boogie board. What a skillful dog.
