Cracker is a galah and Milo is a cross between a blue heeler and a Staffordshire. They are very different creatures and have so many disparities between the two of them. By all accounts, they should have never gotten along. But they defied all norms and they became best friends.
Injured galah
Milo was taking a walk in Melbourne park with his owner’s dad when they happened to come across the injured Cracker. The galah had a broken wing and was struggling to move. The dog saw the bird and approached him. Milo picked him up and took him to his grandpa.
Worried that something might happen to the galah, they took him home. They placed Cracker in a metal cage where he would be safe. For the next several months, they took care of the cockatoo and nursed him back to health.
Milo’s owner, Charlotte would feed the bird and made sure that he got everything he needed. Milo would sit nearby and watch over him. Sometimes, he would stand up and lick the cage. Cracker would watch him from his perch.
When they realized that his wing was better, Charlotte brought him out of his cage and put Cracker on top of it. They wanted him to be free. But he didn’t go anywhere.
Never left
In the next few days, Cracker would start climbing down off his perch and would sit next to Milo. The dog would sit outside and try to kiss him. Then one day, the galah went out of his cage and went down to where the dog was.
He started walking around and even got inside the house. The dog followed his friend everywhere. Sometimes, it would be the other way around. Milo would be on his bed and Cracker would join him.
There will also be moments when the dog, who was way larger than the bird, would place his head over Cracker’s body, trying to snuggle with him. It would look as if he was crushing him, but Cracker doesn’t mind.
According to Charlotte, as unlikely as their friendship is, she can’t imagine the two creatures without each other.
