When the days of someone dear to us are numbered, we try to do everything we can to make them happy. We do our best to give them something wonderful to remember their time here on earth. We focus more on the time we get to spend with them than on the number of days they have left.
That’s what Carlos Fresco did when Monty, his ten-year-old Labradoodle, got sick. His four-legged best friend has been by his side for as long as he could remember. It was difficult for him to process when the doctors told him that the poor thing’s time was almost up.
A heartbreaking plot twist
Eighteen months before Monty’s death, he was diagnosed with leukemia. Fresco immediately had him undergo chemotherapy, and his body responded well to the treatment. The duo thought they were finally out of the woods then, but the Universe had other plans.
Sometime later, Fresco found out that Monty’s disease was back. Unfortunately, for that round, the dog’s body declined rapidly. When the doctors confirmed the inevitable, Fresco promised to stay by Monty’s side and make the most out of every day they had left.
One last time
Fresco knew how much Monty loved going on hill walks, so he decided to make that trip possible for him. The poor thing was already weak then, so the fur dad got a wheelbarrow for the fluff ball to use. Some of Fresco and Monty’s friends joined the walk so they could hang out with him one last time.
The troop went all the way up to the Pen y Fan peak in Brecon Beacons, Wales. The pooch was clearly exhausted, but he did everything he could to show his gratitude to everyone who joined the trip.
Monty crossed the rainbow bridge last June 21, 2021. Albeit devastated, Fresco remains grateful that he was able to take his fur baby on that memorable trip to Pen y Fan peak.
