Collections are a constant source of pride for most people, notably when they consist of rare and high-priced items. Some people typically collected mail stamps, books, coins, or toys. But then, some chose to build collections of strange and unusual things, such as soap bars, Coca-Cola cans, and even lottery scratch cards.
Most collectors were motivated because of sentimental or historical reasons, while some loved the excitement of locating and chasing down rare finds. There was a definite sense of pride and accomplishment whenever they showcased their collections to others, especially fellow collectors.
One unique dog showed that even canines found joy in starting a collection. Bruce, a smart 4-year-old Golden Retriever, proudly presented to the online community his fantastic collection of sticks. What began as a couple of sticks he took from their yard quickly became a large bundle of at least 50 wooden sticks of various shapes and sizes.
Bruce’s owner, Leo Icenhour, shared how the pup started his hobby as a stick collector. When a massive snowstorm left around 12 inches of snow on the ground, Bruce inadvertently lost his favorite stick when he left it outside. Panicked that he lost it forever, Bruce searched for it like mad, sniffing and burying his head in the snow in his efforts to find it.
When the snow eventually melted, he finally found his beloved stick, probably vowing to himself that he didn’t want to go through such trauma ever again. That was when his collection started. Since their family lived near a creek, Bruce had a vast selection of driftwood to choose from.
Technically, this intelligent dog wasn’t allowed to play with his stick collection, due to a freak accident that almost cost him his life. Nevertheless, Bruce still played fetch, but with his rubber toys, which were a lot safer.
