Lianne Powell is a kind Spanish woman who didn’t hesitate to rescue an injured stray dog that she saw on the street. The psychologist noticed that the greyhound was limping and could barely walk. When she noticed that the dog was not aggressive, she took it in her arms and brought it to a local veterinary clinic.
The kind lady was willing to do anything that she could to help the poor dog. What she didn’t know is that she was about to save 10 more.
Vera
Dr. Ellen Sobry, the lead vet at the Clinivet Turre Clinica Veterinaria treated the dog, which they later named Vera. She put her broken leg in a cast and gave her some medication. But she noticed that the pooch was lactating and had all the signs that she had just given birth.
Ellen talked to Lianne and they got worried that the puppies were still out there and they needed their mom. They didn’t have any ideas, though, where to start looking. The only way they could get the puppies was if Vera led them to her litter.
Both women were willing to try anything. So they put a long leash on Vera and took her back to where Lianne found her. Amazingly, from the moment they put her down, the dog started leading the way. She was still limping, but at least the cast kept her from more pain and injuries.
The trio walked almost three miles. They went through back alleys, some fields, over the main road, and finally, to an open area near some muddy tracks. Inside an abandoned car were 10 beautiful puppies waiting for their mom.
Fully recovered
Ellen and Liane took the puppies and brought all of them back to her clinic. Vera and her litter will stay there until she has fully recovered and the puppies are strong enough to fend for themselves.
A nonprofit rescue group based in Murcia, Southern Spain, will take the family by then and find them good homes.
