When Mary’s husband took a new job in Turkey, she and three of her four daughters happily joined him there. One of her girls had a job and she had to stay behind.
Mary, a kind and supportive housewife from the U.S., also brought along their three chihuahuas. They couldn’t just leave them behind. Every member of their family was a huge dog lover and they would never abandon their pets.
Too much to handle
When they were finally in Turkey, one of the first places they visited was the local shelter. And they were quite stunned by what they witnessed.
The shelter was filled to the brim with animals, and the staff was struggling to take care of their rescues. They were barely able to feed the dogs and couldn’t give them any medical care. Although they don’t practice euthanasia, there were a lot of pups dying every day.
Help out
Mary and her daughters often visited the shelter to volunteer, and they would bring bags of food with them. But they knew that it wasn’t enough. There are even times when the girls would end up crying, feeling sorry for the dogs and their situation. They wanted to help all of them, but they knew that there was only so much that they can do.
One particular pup caught their attention. She was very weak and sick of distemper. The staff told them that it was only a matter of days before she would lose her life.
Determined to give her life a happy ending, the family decided to bring the puppy home.
A miracle
Despite having only several days left, they showered the puppy with love and even gave her a name, Faith. But to their surprise, the dog seemed to get stronger each day.
The days then turned into weeks, and then into months. Faith, who was barely moving when they got her, was now running around. Her incredible transformation was miraculous.
Several years after that, the family returned to the U.S., and Faith came along with them. The small pooch is now living a very happy life, a far cry from her former situation.
And even though the family is back in their country, they still regularly send support to the local shelter where Faith came from.
