JoAnn Wiltz and Lisa Arturo are seasoned dog rescuers from a Los Angeles-based animal charity group called Hope for Paws. They have helped countless stray, and abandoned dogs find a better future. Most of their rescue missions are recorded, and the videos are posted on Youtube.
One such video is about a German Shepherd that wandered inside an industrial lot that was barely utilized. The dog got trapped and couldn’t get out. She spent several days inside without any food or water source. Fortunately, a concerned citizen saw the poor pooch and called for help.
Squeeze through a gap
Residents near the industrial lot knew that it could be days or weeks before anyone would open the locked gate. There was no way for the stray dog to get out. When JoAnn and Lisa arrived, they were hoping that they could find a solution.
The first thing that the two ladies did was to establish trust. They gave the dog some food and water to drink. The German Shepherd was very friendly and gentle and even tried to squeeze herself through a gap on the chainlink fence so that she could get closer to her rescuers. But the gap was not big enough.
The rescuers tried to look for any openings, but there were none. After doing some research, they were able to get the contact number for the property manager. He couldn’t come down that same day, and they agreed to meet the next morning.
As there was nothing else that they can do, they left the dog some more food and water and promised to come back for her.
Injured dog
The stray, later named Elsa, was already at the gate the next day, waiting for her rescuers to come back. The property manager was with them and unlocked the gate. As they saw the dog approach them, they could see that she was walking with a limp. When she got closer, they also noticed that she had a wound on her neck.
They brought the injured stray to an animal clinic to properly assess the situation. The vet said that Elsa had a broken foot, and her neck was infected due to a collar that was embedded before. She was given treatment and medication.
Elsa is now living with a foster parent, and she has progressed rapidly. The rescue dog is now waiting for a family to adopt her.
