Firefighters are truly heroes without capes. These extraordinary people may not be as strong as the fictional superhero characters that we see in movies, but they truly save lives.
The role of a firefighter isn’t just to put out fires. They also respond to other emergencies to save lives.
A Sacramento firefighter named Mike Thawley became famous when he saved the life of a sick puppy named Chunkie. Chunkie spent her entire life as a stray and she never knew what human compassion, kindness, and love felt like.
When Thawley found her, she was tied up and no one around was claiming her. Chunkie looked really sick and desperately needed help. Since no one claimed her, Thawley did the next best thing, which was taking her to the nearest animal shelter.
Thawley ended up handing Chunkie over to the Front Street Animal Shelter where she was given medical attention and cleaned up. Chunkie loved all the attention she was getting from the animal shelter workers and volunteers and she was quite happy that she was finally safe.
However, Chunkie was a little sad that her rescuer left her at the shelter. Even during the short time that she spent with Thawley, she already formed a strong bond with him. Chunkie just wanted to see her rescuer and she spent the entire day moping around her kennel.
The next day, Chunkie’s frown was turned upside down when Thawley surprised her with a visit. As soon as she saw her rescuer, her tail immediately started to wag and she had the biggest smile on her face. After letting her out of her kennel, she was jumping up and down trying to get Thawley to carry and cuddle her.
What’s even better was that Thawley didn’t visit Chunkie, but he also applied to adopt her. Once Chunkie gets better, Thawley will take her home to her new forever home. Here’s a video featuring Chunkie’s rescue and her reaction when she was reunited with her rescuer.
