When you’re being sworn in, you declare your commitment to the institution you’re about to be part of. It’s a crucial step that one must take before taking office. They attend an event called the swearing-in ceremony where they take an oath and swear their allegiance.
Of course, in order for one to take that oath, one must be awake, right? Well, this canine from Rhode Island thought otherwise.
Tired, just tired
His name is Brody, and he’s a member of the K-9 unit of the Bristol Police Department. He was only a puppy when he was sworn in, and it happened after he finished training for a good four months. His exhaustion must have kicked in on his special day in because he slept all throughout the event.
According to his handler, Officer Keith Medeiros, Brody was the type of puppy who would go all-out during playtime. Once he would get tired, he would then go all-out during nap time.
Medeiros went on to explain that it’s possible that the then-puppy was too excited to attend his swearing-in ceremony. Perhaps, he got too excited that he conked out. The fur ball was even seen trying his best to keep his eyes open, but he eventually failed. He ended up letting the other officers proceed with the ceremony as he drifted to la-la land.
The perfect dog for the job
Those who witnessed what Brody did during the ceremony couldn’t help but wonder if he got fired. Well, he was given a special task as a K-9 puppy. See, the officers initially planned on training him as a narcotics or bomb-sniffing dog, but Medeiros had other plans. He suggested that they train Brody as a therapy dog instead.
Nope, it was not a demotion. In fact, providing comfort to people is something Brody’s actually good at. He easily gets along with all people, and he does a swell job at making them feel better whenever they find themselves in a bad place.
Brody’s already a full-grown Labrador now. He will, however, eternally be remembered as the puppy who chose sleep over standing in attention during his swearing-in ceremony!
