When Chowder was just four months old, he was already left to fend for himself on the streets. At his age, he was supposed to be taken care of by a mother. But instead, Chowder had to be with himself. The dog was homeless and only survived through the generosity of people passing by where he was.
When Donna Lochmann, a rescuer from Stray Rescue of St. Louis, heard about the dog, she immediately went to where Chowder was. She went there to confirm whether the report she received about a neglected dog was true. Upon seeing the dog, Donna knew that Chowder needs help. This is why she and her other fellow volunteers came to the picture.
It was not a challenging rescue for Donna and her fellow rescuers because when Chowder saw the team, the dog immediately went near them. Despite the dog’s ugly past, Chowder managed to trust other people because he might have felt that Donna and her fellow rescuers are kind individuals.
With this, Donna and the team immediately brought the dog to a nearby veterinary clinic to get checked. When the team was on their way to the clinic, Donna noticed that Chowder was licking her legs. From there, Donna knew that Chowder is a friendly and lovely dog, and she is happy to know this.
At the clinic, Chowder received the medical treatment he needed, and after that, the dog was brought to the shelter to serve as his temporary abode. But Donna saw something different from Chowder, so she decided to foster the dog until Chowder finds the family that would keep him for good.
According to Donna, it was not a difficult decision for her to foster the dog. This is because Donna and Chowder already built an instant connection during the dog’s rescue.
