When Katharine met Bub a little over a year ago, the poor pit bull was in a rough shape. He previously lived as a bait dog in a dogfighting ring, leaving him terrified and traumatized. He was also covered in infection and was underweight for his age, so the shelter he was staying at decided to put him on the kill list.
Fortunately, someone came to his rescue before the shelter put him down. However, although they did save Bub from euthanization, they ended up keeping him in their garage and neglecting him completely. The pup eventually returned to the shelter, and this time, Katharine came across his photo.
Initially, she was a bit hesitant to adopt a pit bull because of the negative impressions people had of the breed. But when she learned that Bub was available for adoption, she immediately jumped on the opportunity and took the pup home. Unfortunately, the first few weeks of getting to know the canine weren’t as easy as she thought.
You see, Bub was completely shut down and would always shy away from her every time she approached him. Katharine knew he needed some space and time, so she let him come out of his shell at his own pace. A few weeks later, Bub was slowly warmed up to her until they became pretty inseparable.
The fur mom couldn’t be proud of how far the pit bull had come, but while Bub did overcome his fear of humans, he eventually developed separation anxiety. To help him get used to being home alone, Katharine began crate training him. She would leave his kennel with a blanket and pillows to make the space more comfortable and cozy.
Soon enough, Bub grew to love his crate, but one other thing that he got attached to was his blanket. Apparently, having his blanket with him at all times eased his anxiety. So whenever he was out of his crate, he would drag it along with him and parade it across the house.
This eventually became a part of his adorable routine, and it always made Katharine think how lovable and affectionate pit bulls truly were. Watch Bub’s story here.
