War veteran David Broido suffered from severe PTSD after his deployment several years back. It was so bad that he had panic attacks and nightmares. Thankfully, he had Bones beside him.
David has always been a dog guy, but he never wanted to spend money buying one from pet stores or breeders. It was important that his dog was a rescue so he opted to adopt it from a local shelter. He met many other dogs and found Bones to be his perfect match.
The soldier did not adopt his dog to be his service animal. He simply loved animals and wanted a companion. But this wonderful Pittie did more than what his human expected from him.
David managed to turn his whole life around because of Bones. He used to spend days drinking and doing drugs. Then, he and his dog discovered the deserts and the outdoors. And suddenly, they both had something to do and it ended up being their favorite thing.
David and Bones went on new adventures every day. They spent every second living their lives to the fullest. All seemed great until they discovered something.
One night, Bones accidentally pulled his leg. He whined and whimpered in pain so David took him to the vet. After a few tests, the doctors revealed the dog had cancer and the surgery needed to save his life can only be done in Pennsylvania.
David admitted he didn’t have enough savings and he didn’t know where to get the money to pay for Bones’ surgery. Without his knowledge, his friends started a GoFundMe page. Pretty soon, there were enough funds for the dog’s medical needs.
He worried it might be their last adventure so David decided to make their trip to Malvern the best one. They visited places until they made it to PA. After waiting, he was ecstatic to hear that Bones pulled through his surgery just fine.
For the next nine months, Bones lived his life as if he didn’t have cancer at all. He did the things he enjoyed doing even with just three legs. And then, he bid goodbye to his dad and crossed the rainbow bridge. David was devastated but Bones will always have a place in his heart.
