Loving a dog means treating them as you would your own children. Feeding them is not the only responsibility of a dog owner. You need to show them love too. Contrary to what some people think, dogs have emotions and can easily get scarred mentally and emotionally.
One dog owner kept his dog chained for all of his life in a small, dirty, and run-down shed. He would feed the dog but never really let it feel loved. It was skinny, rough-looking, and terribly sad. So when a dog rescuer saw him, he knew that something had to be done.
Django unchained
Takis Proestakis is the founder of Takis Shelter, a non-profit rescue organization based in Crete. He cares for over 300 animals inside his private shelter and has rehomed more than 200 dogs and cats. He gave up most everything in his life to build his shelter and focuses mainly on rescuing.
One day, Takis saw a sad-looking dog peering out of a tiny hut. The dog was deeply emaciated and had barely enough fur to cover his skin. The man could clearly see that the dog was neglected, and it broke his heart. He later learned that the dog was kept chained all his life.
He immediately looked for the owner and talked to him. He asked why was the dog kept in such terrible conditions and demanded that he be turned over to him so he can give it the care and attention it needed. The owner balked at his demands and refused to turn the dog over. He said he loved the dog and wants to keep it.
Takis said that if he loved the dog, then he should not neglect its needs. Eventually, the owner agreed and gave the poor pup to the rescuer. Takis then brought the dog, which he named Django, to a vet. There he was looked over and was given medication. When they weighed him, he was merely 12 kilos.
The kind rescuer then brought Django to his shelter, where he gave him a special space. He wanted to give special attention to the dog. Slowly, the dog became better and stronger. His beautiful fur started to grow back, and he was looking more handsome each day.
Taki said that soon, he would find a good home for Django. A home where there is a big space for him to run and play. And also, have kids to play with.
