Dogs can be genuinely affectionate and loving, especially to humans who they see as their family. These animals are pretty smart, generally knowing if a person has good intentions towards them or not. Although, for some rescued dogs, their traumatic backgrounds may slightly impair their judgment and they take a while before they fully trust humans again.
An animal shelter volunteer named Kayla Filoon encountered a neglected and traumatized Pit Bull pup who arrived looking worse for wear. Russ was severely underweight and had several bruises marring his furry body. This scared animal sat quietly in his kennel, looking forlorn and quite sad.
Taking pity on the poor dog, Kayla decided to take him out for a walk to get a feel of the dog’s temperament. Surprisingly, she found the pup well-mannered and very affectionate. It was also interesting to note that he wasn’t a massive barker like other dogs, and he knew basic commands.
Kayla was so moved by him that she decided to adopt him right away.
She adopted him just in time, too, since the issue of overcrowding in the shelter might have led to Russ’ eventual demise. She acted quickly and completed all the documents she needed to bring this sweet dog home.
Russ took to his new home nicely, taking just a week or two for adjustment. Kayla soon realized she had her cuddle buddy, with Russ always snuggling by her side. Her aunt captured a precious moment where the adorable pup sat snuggled next to her on the couch.
The photo went viral online, with everyone gushing over the duo’s obvious bond. Russ was such a love bug, always finding ways to cuddle with his best friend as she went about her homework. Kayla shared how he would often place his head under her arm or move his paw over her chest.
With their photos being shared continuously online, Kayla hoped they would spread awareness about shelter dogs and the significance of adopting them.
